A Novato man was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run collision this week, police confirmed Friday.

Binh Van Tran, 64, was found dead around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 101 near Hopland, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Tran had apparently run out of gas and was walking along the road when he was struck by a southbound vehicle near Old River Road, the CHP said. Police said there was no sign the driver tried to avoid Tran. The driver remained at large Friday and the investigation was continuing.
